Nida Privacy Policy
Effective June 17, 2026
Who we are. Alim Academy / Muslim Community School, 7917 Montrose Rd, Potomac, MD 20854 — (301) 340-6713 — info@alimacademy.org. “Nida” is the school’s communication platform, operated by the school for its community.
SMS / text messaging
Families and staff may opt in to receive school text messages through Nida (Settings → Notifications, or at enrollment). The program sends school announcements, schedule changes and closures, event reminders, dismissal/pickup updates, and urgent or emergency alerts. Message frequency varies. Message & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out of non-emergency texts, HELP for help, or call (301) 340-6713. Consent to texting is not a condition of enrollment.
We do not share or sell your mobile number, or your SMS/text-messaging opt-in, to any third party or affiliate for their own marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile information is used only to deliver the school messages described above, through our messaging provider (Telnyx) acting on the school’s behalf.
What we collect
- Roster information from the school’s student information system (Blackbaud) or provided at enrollment: parent/guardian and student names, grade levels, email addresses, mobile phone numbers, and parent–student relationships.
- Communication preferences and engagement: channel preferences, opt-outs, and message delivery/read status.
- Account linkages you create, such as a Telegram account ID when you link the school bot.
- Photos shared in school galleries, shown in Nida only to signed-in school families in the audience the school chose for each album. If you do not want your child photographed for galleries, tell the school office and staff will not include them.
What we do not do
- No advertising, and no sale or rental of your data.
- No public posting of student names or private information.
- Children do not create their own accounts; student access is school-provisioned and parent/school managed.
Service providers
Google Cloud / Firebase (hosting, database, authentication, notifications) · Telnyx (SMS delivery) · Telegram (optional channel you link voluntarily) · Blackbaud (the school’s student information system). Each receives only what its function requires.
Retention
Messages and announcements are kept for the current and previous school year so families and staff can refer back to them. When a family leaves the school, their Nida access is closed as soon as the roster is updated and they no longer receive messages; their records are then kept only as long as the school’s student-records policy requires, after which they are deleted on request or as part of the school’s periodic clean-up. Administrative audit logs are kept for accountability.
Your rights
You may view the data Nida holds about your family, correct roster errors via the school office, opt out of non-urgent SMS and non-essential channels in Settings, ask the office not to include your child in gallery photos, and request deletion of your family’s records when leaving the school (subject to the records the school must keep).
